The Future of AI and Humanity
Event Description

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly impacting many aspects of modern life which raises the question of what the future holds?

How advanced could AI become? Could it achieve human-level intelligence? Or surpass us to become superintelligent? Or could it become conscious? Will we have an AI scientist? What are the implications of AI for society?

Some fear that AI might take over while others hope it could play a role in transforming humanity to an almost god-like status. Even in the absence of such dramatic outcomes, AI is raising huge social and ethical questions about life in the 21st century. This workshop includes talks and a panel discussion exploring technical, ethical, philosophical and theological issues on the future of AI.

Main Speaker: Nigel Crook, Professor of AI and Robotics, Dean for Research and Innovation, and Director of the Centre for AI, Culture and Society at Oxford Brookes University. Nigel is the author of 'Rise of the Moral Machine: Exploring Virtue Through a Robot's Eyes'.
