Virtual Past & Present - 3D Technologies in Archaeology & Geography
Event Description

Join our survey and digital archaeology team Centre for GIS and Geomatics and ArcPal to explore the magic of 3D scanning and 3D printing.

In our open exhibition you can explore our fleet of 3D laser scanners and drones that we use to capture natural landscapes, built heritage and archaeological objects. There will be an exhibition of 3D printed replicas and landscape models. As a special treat, our equipment suppliers will showcase the latest in 3D scanning technology, which includes a real-life laser scanning robot dog!

In our hands-on workshops you can either see up-close how 3D scanners and drones work and you will get a chance to operate a 3D scanner. Or you can create your very own 3D scan with your mobile phone and watch it being printed right in front of you!

Younger participants can explore and rebuild 3D printed models of archaeological sites like Stonehenge and Ballynahatty passage tomb.
