Supporting your child in sport

Mind & Body
Supporting your child in sport
Event Description

The parents of youth athletes are an important influence on their child’s participation and accomplishment in sport and fulfil differing and evolving roles as youth athletes develop.

“Parents provide children with the opportunity to participate in sport, help children interpret their experiences, and act as role models for participation” (Knight & Holt, 2014). Alongside this, parents are faced with numerous challenges in supporting their child athlete, which can include dealing with athlete’s disappointment, injury, balancing the fine line between commitment and enjoyment, and lack of family time. Join the Ulster University Sport Psychology Research Team in this interactive workshop as they explore the latest research and techniques to help sport parents to understand how to cope with the challenges they face while providing their child athlete with the support they need.
