Event Description

Explore prehistoric axe heads and the geology and archaeology of Co. Antrim in a talk by Ian Enlander (Belfast Geologists' Society). Ian will be accompanied by HERoNI archaeologist Maia Giles who will talk through the manufacture process of stone tools and their uses, with a special focus on Neolithic maceheads. Dr Rebecca Enlander (Historic Environment Division) will be on hand to demonstrate real Neolithic axes and other stone tools.

Discover how porcellanite formations at Tievebulliagh and Brockley were used in the Neolithic period, and view a collection of Irish stone axes, including polished porcellanite and flint tools.
