Next Practice in ESG, Green Computing and Sustainable Software Engineering
Event Description

ESG (Environment, Social & Governance) is one of the current global buzzwords, yet prior to 2005 it was CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) that was on everyone’s lips…. What has changed?

According to TechReport in 2023, the terms environmental, social and governance and corporate social responsibility are being used more widely to describe how businesses can show their commitment to sustainability. Furthermore, according to the most recent version of Gartner's annual survey of CEOs and other senior business executives, conducted in late 2021, environmental sustainability is now a top 10 business focus for the first time in the history of the survey. With growing fears about the state of the environment and the ability to prove ROI for sustainability practices, businesses are under increasing pressure to not only behave ethically and responsibly, but also to demonstrate that they are doing so.

Sustainability is the umbrella that both ESG and CSR fall under and contribute to. ESG and CSR are both ways that businesses can demonstrate their commitment to sustainable business practices. CSR can be seen as the idealistic, big-picture perspective on sustainability, and ESG as the practical, detail-oriented perspective.

This Next Practice Event will provide key insights from local software companies on what is ESG and why evidencing ESG compliance is becoming a necessity; what is Green Computing and Sustainable Software Engineering; and how to embed Sustainable Software Engineering in your organisation.
