Why do metal oxides and stains react differently with the same glaze? And how exactly do changes in firing temperatures and atmospheres in the kiln affect the glazes?
Join Potter, Fiona Shannon, as she explores the world of glaze chemistry in this one-off masterclass at Flowerfield Arts Centre Portstewart. In this masterclass we’ll answer these questions as well as combining various materials to mix up a glaze together from scratch, playing with oxides and other colorants to explore how they will react to glaze. You’ll also complete a number of small test tiles which will be fired to be collected at a later date.
This masterclass will benefit art teachers, art students and amateur potters. Please bring an apron and wear clothes that you don’t mind getting a little messy.
