A Beginner’s Guide to the Science of Compost
Event Description

For all budding gardeners, this is your chance to find out what makes a great compost and discover the science behind it all. Whether you know a little - or not a lot - about how to keep soil healthy, what pH you need and the texture and structure of soil and soil organisms, HCG’s gardeners will fill you in.

See how they make compost and get the carbon and nitrogen ratio just right. Learn what can be composted and how to tell when it’s ready to use. After a guided walk through the Walled Garden you’ll then visit behind-the-scenes areas, including the compost yard and gardeners’ operating base.

Please come dressed for the outdoors.

If wet, we’ll relocate to a polytunnel!

Price includes admission to Hillsborough Castle’s 100 acres of world-famous gardens.
