Event Description
Why is vitamin D so important for our health, and how much do we really know about the so-called sunshine vitamin? From sunlight and nutrition to immunity, inflammation and common diseases, join Dr Kazi Lutfar Rahman for an engaging journey into the fascinating science of vitamin D.
Drawing on his PhD research at Ulster University, Kazi will explore the relationship between vitamin D and psoriasis, an inflammatory skin condition, and investigate why people may respond differently to modern biologic treatments. He will also introduce the intriguing roles of genetics and epigenetics, discuss practical ways to maintain healthy vitamin D levels, and separate scientific evidence from common myths.’
Can vitamin D help protect us from disease? Is sunlight alone enough in Northern Ireland? And could understanding our genes help explain differences in health and treatment responses? Join this informal Science Café to explore these questions, discover the evidence and take part in the conversation.
No scientific background is needed, just curiosity!
