Event Description
This introductory workshop offers a hands-on introduction to Geographical Information Systems (GIS) using QGIS to explore the value of open spatial data.
Participants will explore the core mapping skills using datasets from the new Peatland Geoportal, which brings together local spatial data in one accessible platform. During the session, attendees will have the opportunity to explore the geoportal, provide feedback on its useability and data offerings as well as use datasets in a practical QGIS exercise. In doing so, participants will learn how to integrate spatial data into QGIS, apply symbology, digitise features and create simple maps.
This workshop is tailored to organisations aiming to develop their spatial skills for peatland research and management as well as anyone looking to contribute to our shared geospatial resource. This workshop will be delivered by Centre for GIS and Geomatics and Climate + Biodiversity + Water Co-centre, with support from the Peatlands Collaborative Network (PCN).
