Event Description

Dark historian Andrew Johnston of Alternative Ulstours gifts Belfast a Valentine’s night out for true crime fans, as he premieres a new talk on Irish crimes of passion.

Andrew will present a series of disturbing case studies from the criminal archives, incidents in which destructive emotions such as jealousy, rage or despair impaired a perpetrator’s ability to think rationally, leading to outbursts of extreme violence.

In a legal context, ‘the heat of passion’ is a defence that can often controversially see a murder charge reduced to manslaughter by negating the malicious premeditation.

Andrew will consider the psychology, the biology and the sociology at play behind crimes of passion, and examine whether changing societal norms are provoking a shift in attitudes.

Please note this venue is not accessible and is accessed via one flight of stairs
