Event Description

Step aboard the historic barge on Belfast’s River Lagan for a journey through our waterways past and future. This family friendly drop-in event brings water science to life with hands-on workshops, lively shows, and interactive demonstrations Discover the hidden world beneath the surface, explore the challenges facing our seas and rivers, and meet the scientists working to protect them. Supported by Belfast Harbour.

What’s happening on the day:

  • 🎬 Morning Film Screening (ticketed): Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists! — a swashbuckling animated adventure where science meets the high seas.

  • 🧱 Marine LEGO Workshop: Build your own sea creatures and help create a colourful underwater world.

  • 🔬 Microplastics in Our Water: Get hands-on with Ulster University researchers and uncover the tiny plastics making a big impact on our waterways.

  • 🧪 Live Science Shows with Mark the Science Guy: High-energy, entertaining demonstrations that make water science unforgettable at 1pm, 1:45pm and 2:30pm (half hour shows).
