Tropical time-travel at Cultra

Saturday 3 July, 1:30 pm - 3:00 pm

Suitability: 14 Yrs +

Free.

Come to the shores of Belfast Lough in April for a chance to blow the cobwebs away, and to imagine happier times 350 million years ago when Ireland was on the Equator. The various rocks uncovered at low tide near Cultra were formed in tropical climates, on river floodplains and sea beds, and were affected by mountain building and volcanism. The evidence is clear to see once you know what to look for.

Join Dr Mike Simms, geologist at National Museums NI, for a time-travelling stroll through Ulster’s ancient tropics in search of clues.

Meet opposite at the top of the steps down to the beach at the east end of Seafront Road.
