Malaika Vaz is a National Geographic Explorer, TV Presenter and wildlife filmmaker who works on documentaries focused on the environment for networks like Nat Geo Wild, Discovery Channel, Animal Planet and Al Jazeera.

Malaika is the co-founder of Untamed Planet, a film production house aimed at bringing conservation programming onto mainstream television globally. She recently created a 3-part TV series on the community-led conservation of Asiatic Lions, Leopards and Tigers titled 'Living with Predators' which is airing on Nat Geo Wild and Disney+. She is passionate about investigating transnational wildlife crime, and has been documenting the illegal trade in lesser-known wildlife contraband across Southeast Asia. Over the past few months, her film 'Refugees at Home' has documented the impact of the pandemic on vulnerable migrant workers in India through National Geographic's COVID-19 Emergency Fund for Journalists. Currently, she’s reporting on bat conservation and the wildlife trade in a post-COVID world for Al Jazeera’s award-winning environmental solutions program Earthrise.

This event is hosted by broadcaster and science communicator Greg Foot and presented as part of a new ongoing partnership between National Geographic and NI Science Festival.
