Since the global pandemic cause by the Coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, most people know about the main symptoms of the infection and how it is transmitted from person to person. We know about the cough, loss of taste and smell, feelings of tiredness, and high fever. We know about hand washing and mask wearing.

What might be less well understood is how the virus gets into our bodies to cause infection, or how some people become so unwell, needing intensive care. How does the virus enter our lungs, and what happens to the body when the immune system spirals out of control?

This session looks at the body’s anatomy to explain some of these issues in simple terms.
