Event Description

Have you ever seen the Devil’s footprint or heard tales of the Banshee of Dunluce Castle?

Join us as we delve into the HERoNI (Historic Environment Record of NI) Sites and Monuments Record and unearth some spooky stories associated with our historic environment.

With live demonstrations of the Historic Environment Map Viewer, and opportunities for hands-on sessions, archaeologist Hannah Parker will share how this tool can be used to explore Northern Ireland’s rich history and folkloric associations.
Bronagh Murray HED archaeologist will give an overview of her research on burials and tombs with female mythological and ghostly associations.
As part of our evening of storytelling we would love for you to share your own spooky stories and insights.

This event is free, and spaces will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
Recommended for ages 12+

This event is part of Maps & Memories and made possible by The National Lottery Heritage Fund, thanks to National Lottery players.
Maps & Memories is a community heritage project that marks 200 years since the first mapping survey began on Divis Mountain by the Ordnance Survey. These early efforts laid the foundations for how we understand land, ownership, identity & geography across the island today – with continued cultural, political & scientific significance.
