NI Science Festival are delighted to present The Iron Giant, from animator Brad Bird (The Incredibles, Ratatouille) as part of Film Hub NI's Cinema Day 2019.
In a small American town at the height of the Cold War in the 50s, a gigantic extra-terrestrial robot with an appetite for cars, railroad tracks and TV antennas crash-lands near the home of nine-year-old Hogarth Hughes. Befriending the enormous visitor, Hogarth tries frantically to keep his new pal's existence a secret from both his mother and a paranoid government agent.
This a superbly animated sci-fi adaptation is loosely based on the title character of The Iron Man, a 1968 novel by Ted Hughes cleverly touches on several STEM topics throughout as well as highlighting themes on friendship and growing up.
Robotics Workshop Details
In this hands-on workshop participants will work in pairs were they will learn the basic programming of robots to higher level activity whereby they have the opportunity to manipulate their robots to carry out complex manoeuvres. The workshop will finish with a competition where the participants will programme their robots to navigate a course.
